Vauxhall(Opel) Meriva Oil Type Finder

The Meriva is Vauxhall's representative in the compact van class . Like the previous model, the Meriva B has been built at the Spanish Opel plant in Zaragoza since 2010. Both compact vans are designed as 5-seaters with a flexible interior and are available with both petrol and diesel engines. The Opel Corsa serves as the basis for the Meriva A, while the Meriva B is based on components from the Astra H and the Zafira B. In 2014, Opel launched a revised version of the 2nd generation of the Meriva.

Compared to its predecessor, the Meriva B has become longer and wider, but it has a lower height. The maximum capacity has increased from 1,410 to 1,500 litres. Probably the most obvious difference between the two Meriva generations are the doors of the Opel Meriva B, which open in opposite directions. They enable easy access to the interior even in tight parking spaces and make it easier, for example, to buckle and unbuckle children.

The first Meriva model (2003 to 2010) rolled off the assembly line with 6 petrol engines and 5 engine variants for the diesel version. The Meriva B is available as a petrol engine with and without a turbocharger. The 1.4-litre ecoFlex engine achieves 100 hp without a turbocharger, and up to 140 hp with a turbocharger. The CDTI ecoFlex diesel engine with a displacement of 1.6 litres presented in 2014 together with the facelift brings 136 hp to the road in the most powerful version, with a remarkably low consumption of only 4.4 litres per 100 kilometers.

Motor oil is a vital part of your Vauxhall Meriva's engine. It provides the much needed lubrication to many of the internal parts of an engine. One of its key jobs is to prevent wear and tear on the moving parts which helps keep the engine running smoothly. Without oil, the engine would cease up almost immediately.

Regularly checking and changing your Vauxhall Meriva engine oil is really important. Every time you start and run your car, very fine by-products from the combustion in the engine will be collected in the engine oil. This is one of the reasons why over time the oil goes black. If these contaminants build up too much and exceed the capacity of the oil it can have a negative impact on your car’s overall efficiency and actually effect its performance as it creates sludge and increased wear in the engine block.

Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.

So which engine oil should you buy for your Vauxhall Meriva? Whether you are topping up your Vauxhall Meriva oil or doing a full change of your Vauxhall Meriva's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.

We have listed all the Vauxhall Meriva models and engine types in the following table, as well as the correct engine oil grade for each of the cars. You can use the search and filter to easily find the right engine oil for your Vauxhall Meriva.
