Subaru Forester Oil Type Finder

The fifth generation of the Subaru Forester combines driving comfort and safety. With the facelift for the 2022 model year, the all-wheel drive SUV also has a new front and improved safety equipment. This means that the Forester is not only popular off the road, but also as a family car.

The fourth generation of the Subaru Forester still has a 147 hp diesel boxer. The fifth, on the other hand, is only available with a 2-litre petrol engine. The 150 hp (110 kW) boxer engine with modern mild hybrid technology is supported as a so-called "e-boxer" by a 16.7 hp electric motor (12.3 kW). The latest generation of Foresters saves fuel and reduces CO2 emissions.

The fifth generation Subaru Forester is 4.64 meters long, 1.82 meters wide and 1.73 meters high. The trunk is 509 litres and with the seats folded down, an impressive 1,779 litres. Thanks to the high ground clearance of 22 centimeters and the permanent four-wheel drive, the Subaru Forester is also suitable for light off-road driving without touching down.

The current Subaru Forester is available in a total of four equipment lines: Trend, Active, Comfort and Platinum, which differ greatly in terms of price and extras. Each individual equipment variant is based on the individual requirements of the driver.

Motor oil is a vital part of your Subaru Forester's engine. It provides the much needed lubrication to many of the internal parts of an engine. One of its key jobs is to prevent wear and tear on the moving parts which helps keep the engine running smoothly. Without oil, the engine would cease up almost immediately.

Regularly checking and changing your Subaru Forester engine oil is really important. Every time you start and run your car, very fine by-products from the combustion in the engine will be collected in the engine oil. This is one of the reasons why over time the oil goes black. If these contaminants build up too much and exceed the capacity of the oil it can have a negative impact on your car’s overall efficiency and actually effect its performance as it creates sludge and increased wear in the engine block.

Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.

So which engine oil should you buy for your Subaru Forester? Whether you are topping up your Subaru Forester oil or doing a full change of your Subaru Forester's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.

We have listed all the Subaru Forester models and engine types in the following table, as well as the correct engine oil grade for each of the cars. You can use the search and filter to easily find the right engine oil for your Subaru Forester.
