Vauxhall Insignia Engine Oil Finder

Even in the second generation, the Opel Insignia is almost above the middle class in terms of equipment and size. Only when it comes to the engines is it still a bit too stuffy. After the successful first generation, it is still on the road to success as the Insignia B.

The Opel Insignia plays a large part in the fact that Opel can actually call itself a "surprise in the business class". With its size and extensive equipment, it is ideal as a company car but also as a family car in the form of a station wagon . Very interesting models can be found here for comparatively little money on the used car market.

With the Opel Insignia A, Opel found a more than worthy successor to the Opel Vectra. The new Opel mid range car celebrated its premiere in July 2008 at the British International Motor Show. The following November sales began in a choice of four-door sedan or five-door hatchback . Visually, it didn't make a big difference. Only the tailgate was designed differently. In the hatchback, the rear window was still part of the flap, in the notchback the tailgate began under the window. Compared to the Vectra, the first Insignia was slightly larger and also slightly more expensive. At the start of the first generation, there were seven engine variants to choose from: four petrol and three diesel.

In 2013, the Opel Insignia A received a facelift. Opel tweaked the usual things and brought things like new LED headlights, individual visual improvements and revised engines. In April 2017, Opel built the last example of the first generation. After more than 944,000 vehicles it was over and it was time for the second generation. In July 2017, the Vauxhall / Opel Insignia B is launched, this time the Geneva Motor Show gave the new Insignia the stage for its first appearance. The second Insignia has lost around 200 kg and is based on General Motors' E2 platform. For better pedestrian protection, it has an active aluminium hood. In the event of a collision, it raises itself slightly and thus better catches the pedestrian. For the 2020 model year, Opel gave the Insignia B a facelift. It brought a new front end with changed headlights, revised engines and, for the time being, the end of the Country Tourer model. Somewhat unusual: Opel still does not use mild hybrid variants or any plug-in hybrid or electric drives at all.

Motor oil is a vital part of your Vauxhall Insignia's engine. It provides the much needed lubrication to many of the internal parts of an engine. One of its key job is to prevent wear and tear on the moving parts and helps keep the engine running smoothly. Without oil, the engine would cease up almost immediately.

Regularly checking and changing your Vauxhall Insignia engine oil is really important. Every time you start and run your car, very fine by-products from the combustion in the engine will be collected in the engine oil. This is one of the reasons why over time the oil goes black. If these contaminants build up too much and exceed the capacity of the oil it can have a negative impact on your car’s overall efficiency and actually effect its performance as it creates sludge and increased wear in the engine block.

Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.

So which engine oil should you buy for your Vauxhall Insignia? Whether you are topping up your Vauxhall Insignia oil or doing a full change of your Vauxhall Insignia's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.

We have listed all the Vauxhall Insignia models and engine types in the following table, as well as the correct engine oil grade for each of the cars. You can use the search and filter to easily find the right engine oil for your Vauxhall Insignia.

Opel Insignia Alternatives
In the middle class, the Opel Insignia faces many exciting competitors. Of the major manufacturers, these are the Audi A4, VW Passat, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Alternatively, there are the Mazda 6, the Kia Optima, the Skoda Superb or the Renault Megane.

Which engines are available in the current Vauxhall Insignia?
There are currently three engine variants to choose from: we have the 2.0 Direct Injection Turbo, 200 PS, Automatic, a 1.5 diesel, diesel, 122 hp, manual or automatic and finally a 2.0 diesel, diesel, 174 hp, manual or automatic.

The 2.0 Direct Injection Turbo is a petrol engine with four in-line cylinders. They each have a displacement of 2.0 litres. From this they make 200 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The performance is transmitted here without exception by the 9-speed automatic. It should be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds as a sedan and in 7.9 seconds as a station wagon. If you are less interested in the fast sprint and drive in a fuel-efficient manner, it should be able to be satisfied with 6.4 to 6.3 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres with a combined driving style. The top speed is 233 km/h.

We have a little more choice with the diesel variants. The smaller engine has three cylinders and a displacement of 1.5 litres. It delivers 122 hp and 300 Nm of torque with manual transmission and 285 Nm with automatic transmission. So there is a choice between the manual gearbox with 6 gears and an 8-speed automatic. At best, it accelerates to 100 km/h in 11.6 seconds. This is significantly quicker with the more powerful diesel engine, namely in 8.9 seconds. It has four cylinders, 2.0 litres and 174 hp. The maximum torque is 380 Nm. Here, too, we have the choice between manual and automatic transmission.
