Kia Rio Oil Type Finder

Kia Rio Overview

The Kia Rio is a compact car that has been in production since 1999. As the successor to the Kia Pride, great expectations were placed on the model and it hasn't disappointed. The Rio is now in its fourth generation and is still very popular.

Generally spaking the Kia Rio has excellent driving reviews. The Rio offers plenty of space in the front seats and in terms of price vs performance ratio its very good. You get a lot of car for the money. As with all Kia's, the Rio comes with a seven-year warranty, the best warranty period the car industry has to offer.

The design of the Kia Rio can be described as modern. The large windows offer a good all-round view. The edges of the vehicle can also be seen clearly. The distance warning and the reversing camera provide supporting services. The exterior mirrors are very large and provide a wide field of vision. The interior mirror, on the other hand, is just big enough. The B-pillar becomes annoying when getting in and out, on the rear doors more than on the front doors.

How Much Oil Does a Kia Rio Need?

Kia uses different engines in the Rio and each has its specific capacity. For example, a Kia Rio 1.4 CRDi 77 needs 5.7 liters to change the oil . In the Kia Rio 1.5 16V with 72 kW, on the other hand , 3.0 liters of engine oil are enough, i.e. a little more than half. Most engines in the series fall within this range.

Kia Rio Oil Change Interval

Depending on the type of fuel and the engine, the oil change intervals for the Rio models differ. For most vehicles, the engine oil should be changed every 15,000 km or once a year - whichever comes first. For some engines, an oil change every 20,000 km/1 year or 30,000 km/1 year is sufficient. The diesel engines of the third series are extremely frugal with 30,000 km/2 years.

Under difficult conditions, general maintenance and therefore oil changes are due earlier. Kia states some examples of 'difficult conditions as frequent trips at high speeds, long trips at low speeds or frequent idling, frequent trips in dusty environments, mainly used on roads that are sprinkled with road salt and when your Kia Rio is frequently towing.

Our Top Tip

Store a 1 litre bottle with the correct engine oil rating and viscosity in the trunk of your Kia Rio. Then you always have a small amount at hand for refilling should the oil light come on.

Below you will be able to search and find the exact model, year and engines size of your Kia Rio and find what the correct type of oil to use is.

Choosing the correct oil for your Rio

Only use engine oil with the correct approval for your Kia Rio and also pay attention to the viscosity.

When designing the engine for your Kia Rio, the engineers thought about which engine oil to use right from the start. The properties of the oil were important for some calculations and the selection of the materials that could be used. Your engine was later tested many times with exactly this type of oil; your Kia Rio is tailored exactly to this engine oil.

After approval, you also have to pay attention to the flow properties of the engine oil, because viscosity is one of the basic characteristics. An engine oil release is often available in several viscosity classes, but Kia severely limits the selection for the Rio engines. For example, for a Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDI 120 Bj 2019, only the specification ACEA A5/B5 SAE 5W-30 may be filled.

As a small car, the Kia Rio has various alternatives. The Corsa, Ford Fiesta and VW Polo are available in this vehicle class. In terms of dimensions, the vehicles differ by only a few centimetres. In terms of price and equipment, the Kia Rio performs significantly better than the alternatives. It offers the best equipment at the lowest price and can score here with its good price-performance ratio.
