The Kia Optima replaced the Kia Clarus in 2010. The third generation of Kia Optima with the internal designation TF was presented for the first time in April 2010 at the New York Auto Show. The Kia Optima TF is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Sonata, with the Kia standing out with more distinctive lines.
At the market launch of the new generation of the Kia Optima, only a 2.0-litre petrol engine without supercharging and with direct injection was available in Europe. In 2012, a 1.7-litre diesel engine with 136 hp was also introduced. The 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine with 278 hp and the 2.4 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 175 hp, on the other hand, were only available in the USA and Canada.
From 2013 there was also a hybrid version of the Sportswagon, although in Europe this was coupled with the 2.0 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and not with the 2.4 litre variant from the USA.
The Kia Optima TF is only available as a sedan, while the station wagon known as the SW or Sportwagon was only introduced with the next generation. A Kia Optima TF is 4.85 meters long, 1.84 meters wide and 1.46 meters high and therefore has a lot of space in the interior . A total of five people up to a height of 1.85 meters can be comfortably accommodated in the Kia.
Motor oil is a vital part of your Kia Optima's engine. It provides the much needed lubrication to many of the internal parts of an engine. One of its key jobs is to prevent wear and tear on the moving parts which helps keep the engine running smoothly. Without oil, the engine would cease up almost immediately.
Regularly checking and changing your Kia Optima engine oil is really important. Every time you start and run your car, very fine by-products from the combustion in the engine will be collected in the engine oil. This is one of the reasons why over time the oil goes black. If these contaminants build up too much and exceed the capacity of the oil it can have a negative impact on your car’s overall efficiency and actually effect its performance as it creates sludge and increased wear in the engine block.
Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.
So which engine oil should you buy for your Kia Optima? Whether you are topping up your Kia Optima oil or doing a full change of your Kia Optima's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.
We have listed all the Kia Optima models and engine types in the following table, as well as the correct engine oil grade for each of the cars. You can use the search and filter to easily find the right engine oil for your Kia Optima.

The Kia Optima TF is a classic mid-range notchback sedan that stands out with its striking lines. An alternative to this is the Opel Insignia A, which also has an interesting design. In contrast to the Kia, the Opel Insignia is also available as a station wagon version, which is called Sports Tourer. The Insignia is also very comfortable to drive and has petrol and diesel engines, although there are no hybrid models. The engine power ranges from 120 hp to 325 hp. Another similar car would be the Renault Fluence, which like the Kia Optima, was only available as a notchback. The Renault Fluence was offered from 2009 up to and including 2018 and was then replaced by the Renault Megane IV.
