Hyundai i20 Engine Oil Finder

For a long time, small cars were the classic second car or the first car for novice drivers. That has changed. In cities that are becoming increasingly crowded, every centimeter counts. The ideal conditions for a small hatchback car like the Hyundai i20, which is not as spacious as a VW Golf, but still offers enough space for everyday use.

Introduced in 2008, the Hyundai i20 was initially only available as a five-door model, followed a year later by a three-door version. Less expensive than the competition, but still with a five-year manufacturer's guarantee, it established itself as an alternative in the hotly contested small car segment.

With the first facelift in 2012, the Hyundai i20 was given a new front and revised engines, the second generation was introduced in 2014. The Active crossover variant followed two years later, expanding the Hyundai i20 range with SUV elements. In 2018, the Korean manufacturer extensively revised the small car again and adapted it to current developments. The coupe flew out of the program as well as diesel engines. This did not detract from the popularity of the Hyundai i20. The current third generation followed in 2020, with which the small car grew again and now offers more interior space.

The basic engine of the Hyundai i20 is a 4-cylinder petrol engine with 84 hp, which has been powering the South Korean small car since the third generation was launched in October 2020. New for Hyundai in the small car segment is a turbocharged petrol engine with three cylinders. The manufacturer builds the 1.0-litre petrol engine in three versions. Hyundai offers the variant with 100 hp for the i20 either as a conventional unit or as a mild hybrid. The third version of the 1.0 T-GDI tops off the range. The mild hybrid delivers 120 hp. In spring 2021, the Hyundai i20 N followed as the top engine with a 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder and 202 hp.

Motor oil is a vital part of your Hyundai i20's engine. It provides the much needed lubrication to many of the internal parts of an engine. One of its key jobs is to prevent wear and tear on the moving parts which helps keep the engine running smoothly. Without oil, the engine would cease up almost immediately.

Regularly checking and changing your Hyundai i20 engine oil is really important. Every time you start and run your car, very fine by-products from the combustion in the engine will be collected in the engine oil. This is one of the reasons why over time the oil goes black. If these contaminants build up too much and exceed the capacity of the oil it can have a negative impact on your car’s overall efficiency and actually effect its performance as it creates sludge and increased wear in the engine block.

Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.

So which engine oil should you buy for your Hyundai i20? Whether you are topping up your Hyundai i20 oil or doing a full change of your Hyundai i20's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.
