Changing the oil in your Ford C-Max is easy to do yourself - all information, tips and tricks for doing it yourself and plenty of helpful information can be found online or in your owners handbook.

If you want your Ford C-Max engine to last for a long time, you should change the engine oil regularly because the engine oil is one of the most essential components in your vehicle. If the oil change is delayed for too long, the wear and tear of important components in the engine is significantly increased - in the worst case, this can lead to costly engine damage. But beware: Motor oil is not just motor oil. Each manufacturer (including Ford) has certain requirements and specifications for each engine that an oil must meet in order to lubricate the engine without problems.

Motor Oil: Types and Alloys
There are three different types of motor oil. On the one hand there are mineral oils that are made from products of petroleum distillation, on the other hand there are synthetic oils that are obtained from synthesis processes. Semi-synthetic oils are a mixture of the two products. All modern motor oils are alloys that contain additives in addition to the mineral or synthetic oil. Additives can serve to reduce consumption, to prevent wear and also to clean the engine.

Every engine has a need for certain additives. For example, engines with oil-guided toothed belts must be filled with an oil that does not decompose rubber, while other engines need oils with other properties. In many cases, motor oil is therefore no longer just a lubricant, but in some cases a listed spare part.

Long-term storage of engine oil is not recommended, even with closed oil canisters. Even without use, oils and lubricating properties age and the effect of the additives is lost.

Back in 2013, Ford's three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine won the prestigious International Engine of the Year award for the second year in a row. The 1.0-liter petrol engine, which was built in Cologne and is used in the Fiesta, Focus and Grand C-Max, among other things, convinced the international jury of journalists above all with its low everyday consumption and the wide range of applications - despite its comparatively tiny displacement, its power is sufficient not only for small cars, but also for the extra-long compact van Grand C-Max. Second place went to the new generation of Volkswagen's 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine, which has cylinder deactivation that is unique in this displacement class and is used in the VW Golf VII, the Audi A3 and the Seat Ibiza, among others. The 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine from BMW took third place. The four-cylinder is known, among other things, from the 1 series and 3 series.

More detailed information on when the inspection is due and under what circumstances it becomes necessary early can be found in the operating instructions and in the service booklet of the Ford C-Max.

Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.

So which engine oil should you buy for your Ford C-Max? Whether you are topping up your Ford C-Max oil or doing a full change of your Ford C-Max's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.
