Over the years there have been five generations of the Ford Mondeo:
Ford Mondeo Generation 1 (1993–1996)
Ford Mondeo Generation 2 (1996–2000)
Ford Mondeo Generation 3 (2000–2007)
Ford Mondeo Generation 4 (2007–2014)
Ford Mondeo Generation 5 (since 2014)
Ford recommends that the Mondeo oil is changed after 30,000 kilometers and within 24 months , which can be a useful guide - depending on the driving conditions, you will be reminded even more precisely of the next oil change by the on-board computer.
Since the oil consumption of your car can naturally vary greatly depending on the driving conditions and driving style of different Mondeo owners, it is best to always refer to the individual reminder provided by your on-board computer (newer Mondeo series).
These service display in your Mondeo will make it clear when the oil change is due. Of course, if you have a high proportion of short trips in the car then the oil should be replaced more often and the service interval on the Mondeo is sometimes greatly reduced.
In terms of the amount of oil you will need, we have provided two engine variants which are intended to give you a rough guide to the filling quantity. For the smaller engine with 115 hp you will need 3.85 litres of engine oil for a full oil change - the larger 240hp petrol engine with 240 hp, on the other hand, requires 5.7 litres of oil.
Motor oil is a vital part of your Ford Mondeo's engine. It provides the much needed lubrication to many of the internal parts of an engine. One of its key job is to prevent wear and tear on the moving parts and helps keep the engine running smoothly. Without oil, the engine would cease up almost immediately.
Regularly checking and changing your Ford Mondeo engine oil is really important. Every time you start and run your car, very fine by-products from the combustion in the engine will be collected in the engine oil. This is one of the reasons why over time the oil goes black. If these contaminants build up too much and exceed the capacity of the oil it can have a negative impact on your car’s overall efficiency and actually effect its performance as it creates sludge and increased wear in the engine block.
Every engine oil will have its viscosity grade labelled on the packaging. This will look something like 0W-20, 5W-30 or 5W-40. This grading is used to measure how thick / fluid the oil is and help ensure you buy the right oil for your car. The lower the viscosity grade of the oil, the more fluid and thinner it will be than those with a high grade (higher numbers) which will be much less running and thick.
So which engine oil should you buy for your Ford Mondeo? Whether you are topping up your Ford Mondeo oil or doing a full change of your Ford Mondeo's oil it is really important that you use the correct grade of oil.
We have listed all the Ford Mondeo models and engine types in the following table, as well as the correct engine oil grade for each of the cars. You can use the search and filter to easily find the right engine oil for your Ford Mondeo.
